There's nothing like Nanny's fancy teacups and fresh cinnamon whipped cream on warm cocoa to make a snow day festive! Add some giant icicle busting and playing in the fresh powder and winter just might become my favorite season.
Like I said, on the verge. Back and forth, darkness and light, joy and despair. Sometimes a little family yoga helps us find the equanimity, sometimes only chocolate will do.
The sewing machine and I are getting to know each other, in that on again, off again kind of way. I'm not quite so intimidated by its inner workings, but there have still been a few midnight "I can't figure out how to work this *^#@ thing" moments.
Each of the children now has one window covered in curtains. They chose the fabric, but I'm the one who cares infinitely more that their rooms have curtains than they do!
Miel's even have ruffles because, in my carelessness, I bought too little fabric and the panels were a couple of inches too short. "Just add ruffles," piped an accomplished friend. Didn't think I could do it, but here they are. . .with some fun fabric chosen by Miel that I never would have even considered.
Isaiah's banner was his birthday present from me. Finished the night before his birthday, of course. From Amanda Blake Soule's Handmade Home. And yes, the "peace" message, a bit of my high hopes for what he can hold within himself and bring to his family and the world around him (and even his sister!).

Settling in ::: This house has near-perfect feng shui. Did you know this is our 9th move in the 8 years Steve and I have known each other? Can you even imagine? Our 4th since Isaiah was born. We're finally going through every scrap, figuring out what to keep and what to take to next weekend's rummage sale. No more 10 extra boxes of "stuff" languishing in the garage. (Deep sigh of uncluttered freedom)

Meeting ::: our friendly neighbors . . . somehow we've landed in a neighborhood that feels a bit like Blue Lake. How did that happen??? We even have a chain link fence :) It's a modest neighborhood tucked between parks in the city. Neat and clean, but doesn't look like much from the street. Then you go out back to the woods and the creek and the neighbors share an appreciation of where they live. We really lucked into that!
